In case you didn’t know, The Hunger Games director Garry Ross is currently prepping a new take on the Ocean’s 11 franchise. We don’t exactly need another reboot of the 1960 original, as Steven Soderbergh’s attempt was pretty good back in 2001 (even if it was followed by two lacklustre sequels), but we’re getting one anyways. And, keeping with the current trend in Hollywood, this version is going to be led by a female cast.
We originally heard that Sandra Bullock was being courted to head up the pic, and now, The Tracking Board is bringing us news that Ross has his eye on his Hunger Games star Jennifer Lawrence. Said to be more of a spinoff than a reboot, Bullock will apparently play Danny Ocean’s sister in the film, while Lawrence is wanted for the role of Bullock’s second in command. Together, they’ll attempt to steal “a necklace from the Met Ball and frame a crooked gallery owner.”
There’s no word yet on if any of the cast from Soderbergh’s films will be showing up here (given that it’s a spinoff, they very well could), but Bullock and Lawrence are certainly a strong start for the project. And, while it may not be the most necessary movie floating around Hollywood right now, heist flicks are generally a lot of fun and with these two actresses leading the way, we could get an interesting take on the usually male dominated genre.
Tell us, are you into the idea of a female-led take on Ocean’s 11? If so, who else do you want to see in the cast? Sound off below and let us know.
