After some speculation about the viability of a sixth season of House Of Lies, Showtime has confirmed that the comedy will not be renewed past its fifth season finale – due to air on June 12th, 2016. The announcement of series co-star Kristen Bell joining new NBC show The Good Place caused some to question whether House Of Lies would indeed return – although all involved insisted the actress could undertake both projects simultaneously. There’s no longer any need to accommodate such a schedule, however, as House Of Lies officially prepares to shutter its windows.
President and CEO of Showtime Networks Inc, David Nevins, praised the cast, crew and creators of the show, as he announced its cancellation.
“House Of Lies is a comedy that has frequently been ahead of the curve. Over the course of its five seasons, it has tackled such hot-button topics as gender identity, wealth inequality, white privilege, police brutality, interracial relationships, and code-switching with honesty and a biting sense of humor. Matthew Carnahan and Don Cheadle have been dream partners and impeccable leaders. The core cast of Don, Kristen, Ben and Josh are one of the best comedy teams on television. They have brought the series to an incredibly satisfying conclusion with this historic final episode shot in Cuba.”
The show is based on the book by Martin Kihn, titled House Of Lies: How Management Consultants Steal Your Watch And Then Tell You The Time, and followed a group of ruthless management consultants – led by the particularly conniving character of Marty Kaan – as they left their corporate positions and set up their own, fledgling consultancy.
House Of Lies won several awards during the course of its run, including a Golden Globe for series star Don Cheadle, and we’ll definitely miss it once it goes off the air.
