While we know that Luke Cage will premiere on Netflix this September, it’s been a while since we’ve heard anything about the series. In fact, other than the teaser which premiered at the end of Daredevil‘s second season, Marvel has yet to release so much as a single official image from the highly anticipated show.
Thank goodness for set photos then, as a new batch of them have found their way online today. As you can see, they feature Mike Colter’s Luke Cage going at it with Erik LaRay Harvey as Willis Stryker/Diamondback.
Last year, a synopsis for Luke Cage started doing the rounds which shed some more light on the role that Diamondback will play in the series:
Luke Cage is a former gang member who is framed for a crime. In prison, he volunteers for a medical experiment that goes awry, giving him super strength and bulletproof skin. Using his newfound powers, Cage escapes and becomes a hero for hire. His archenemy is Willy Stryker, a former childhood friend from Harlem. The two committed petty crimes together, and both fell for the same woman, Reva Connors, which led to their eventual falling out. It was Stryker who framed Cage for a drug deal that sent him to prison.
It appears as if this show will stick fairly closely to the comic books then, though it’s worth noting that Cage and Stryker have a mutual enemy in the form of Cornell “Cottonmouth” Stokes (Mahershala Ali), so it’s going to be interesting to see whether or not Luke Cage ends up teaming these two rivals up against him at a later point in the season.
