Diving into the dark recesses of Elliot’s mind and the digital revolt both he and fsociety sparked at the tail-end of season 1, a new Mr. Robot featurette has booted online today via The Hollywood Reporter designed to outline the societal collapse that is now being referred to as “Five/Nine.”
Wasting no time in plunging viewers back into the thick of the action, THR also reveals that the sophomore outing of Sam Esmail’s dark, bloody brilliant drama picks up a mere 30 days after anarchy ensued on the streets of NYC.
In anticipation of Mr. Robot season 2 hitting the small-screen on July 13, Rami Malek – who returns in the role of the reclusive Elliot – noted that the upcoming run of episodes is “very different from last year. What he’s trying to do, at all costs, is to remove him from his world.”
Going one step further, Christian Slater (Mr. Robot) asked fans to strap in in preparation of season 2 poking and prodding at the darker corners of Elliot’s mind. Said Slater: “Season two will go to some pretty dark places. We delve into several of the nooks and crannies of Elliot’s psyche.”
Also on board are Portia Doubleday and Carly Chaikin from season 1, rubbing shoulders with a host of newcomers that includes Joey Bada$$, Chris Conroy, Grace Gummer and Craig Robinson.
With Tyrell Wellick (Martin Wallström) still at large, expect Mr. Robot season 2 to plunge further into Elliot’s fractured psyche when Sam Esmail’s award-winning hacking drama returns to USA Network on July 13.
