USA Network is betting big with Mr. Robot season 2, announcing plans to extend the sophomore run by a further two episodes with a live after show to boot.
That means the Golden Globe-winning drama will return next month with 12 episodes as opposed to 10, while Hacking Robot – another live after show to join the growing pack – will air immediately after season 2’s two-hour premiere on Wednesday, July 13.
An official statement from USA Network – as relayed by Deadline – reads as so:
“The first season of Mr. Robot was everything we hoped for – and then some,” said Chris McCumber, President Entertainment Networks, NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment. “So it’s no surprise that Sam and team have raised the bar even more in season two. From the first moments of the new season, it’ll be clear that audiences are in for something incredibly special and wholly unexpected.”
“Strap in! The extraordinary ride that is Mr. Robot continues with a wild season two. It’s a brilliant and immersive journey that demands to be watched again and again,” said Jeff Wachtel, Chief Content Officer at NBC.
Featuring an “intimate” virtual reality scene, Mr. Robot season 2 is primed to ramp up the stakes for Elliot Alderson and Co., which only portends all manner of mind-bending trouble for our tormented protagonist.
Mr. Robot season 2 will uproot the establishment via USA Network on July 13. Christian Slater, Portia Doubleday, Carly Chaikin, Joey Bada$$, Chris Conroy, Grace Gummer and Craig Robinson are among the cast on board for the show’s sophomore season, and you can check out a series of moody one-sheets, below.
