From day one, it’s been obvious that we wouldn’t see Hawkeye in his classic purple costume in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. As well-loved as that is, it wouldn’t make sense from a story perspective (especially as this Clint Barton is a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent), and could very well end up looking pretty daft in live-action.
That’s why Hawkeye was put in his Ultimate outfit, but it turns out that the hero could very well have ended up his his more comic book-y costume from Ultimates 3 – a critically panned series from Jeph Loeb – based on this Captain America: Civil War concept art by Andy Park.
As you can see in the gallery above, the archer has been given a mask which looks like it was torn straight from that series, though the Russo Brothers deciding against using this does make sense. After all, Clint had no real reason to hide his identity in Captain America: Civil War, especially as Nick Fury has made sure that his family have been kept a secret.
Regardless, there’s no denying that this would have been a very cool look to see in live-action. Marvel Studios has a habit of updating the costumes of their characters after every movie, and now that Hawkeye is on the run, it’s entirely possible we’ll see this costume in Avengers: Infinity War after it was passed on for Captain America: Civil War. We’ll just have to wait and see though.
