It’s been a busy week in the Star Trek Beyond camp – and it all began with the unveiling of Empire Magazine’s latest cover, which placed Justin Lin’s galactic blockbuster front and center.
Following up on said reveal, the outlet has now premiered a pair of new still images for Bad Robot’s imminent tentpole, heralding the return of Chris Pine in the role of Captain James T. Kirk.
Drawing up battle plans alongside Scotty (Simon Pegg) and their all-new alien ally Jaylah (Kingsman breakout Sofia Boutella), the worried look plastered on the face of Pine’s brooding protagonist really sums up the dire situation facing the Enterprise crew.
Much of that chaos will originate from a meeting with Idris Elba’s big bad Krall, who seeks to take the Federation down a peg or two beginning with the Starship Enterprise. As Elba himself teases to Empire, Kirk and Co. have spent so long pushing the frontier that it’s about time the frontier started “pushing back.” Ominous words from the franchise newcomer.
Joining Pine, Pegg and Boutella for the white-knuckle ride are Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, the late Anton Yelchin and John Cho. They’ll headline the crew of good guys, while there are also roles for Elba as aforementioned baddie Krall, and Joe Taslim.
Star Trek Beyond is set to arrive in the thick of blockbuster season, and you’ll be able to see Justin Lin’s tentpole light up the big screen on July 22.
