Mere days out from its theatrical release, Paramount and Bad Robot have rolled out the third and final full-length trailer for Star Trek Beyond, Justin Lin’s high-octane threequel that is currently riding the crest of a wave of pre-release buzz.
Pushing the Enterprise crew far out into the frontier, Beyond tees up a meeting with Idris Elba’s towering nemesis Krall, who resides on a dark alien planet. Plotting to bring the Starfleet Federation down to size, Elba’s big, big bad places his proverbial crosshairs on Kirk and Co., and once Chris Pine’s protagonist and his spacefaring ensemble are scattered across the four corners of Krall’s planet, that’s when Beyond looks set to kick into gear.
[zergpaid]Starring opposite Pine are Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, Simon Pegg, the late Anton Yelchin and John Cho, not to mention new roles for Elba, Sofia Boutella and Joe Taslim. J.J. Abrams, who helmed Star Trek and its immediate sequel Into Darkness, is producing the third entry in the rebooted franchise, while Justin Lin is directing from a script by Simon Pegg and Doug Jung.
Star Trek Beyond finally lands in theaters on July 22. The road doesn’t end there for Kirk and Co., however, with news emerging earlier today that Paramount and Bad Robot have already mapped out early plans for Star Trek 4, a sequel that will seemingly herald the return of Chris Hemsworth as Papa Kirk.
“Star Trek Beyond,” the highly anticipated next installment in the globally popular Star Trek franchise, created by Gene Roddenberry and reintroduced by J.J. Abrams in 2009, returns with director Justin Lin (“The Fast and the Furious franchise) at the helm of this epic voyage of the U.S.S. Enterprise and her intrepid crew. In “Beyond,” the Enterprise crew explores the furthest reaches of uncharted space, where they encounter a mysterious new enemy who puts them and everything the Federation stands for to the test.
