Confirming early rumors to be true, Sony has officially lifted the lid on DriveClub VR, an all-new title that expands Evolution’s racing facsimile into virtual reality.
Word comes by way of PlayStation Japan (via Gematsu), revealing that the VR experience will launch in the country on October 13 alongside Sony’s PlayStation VR device. No details were disclosed for an international release at this time.
Upon translating the official blurb for DriveClub VR, Gematsu confirmed the game to be “a realistic racing experience previously unseen with a cockpit view through the PlayStation VR headset, as well as realistic sound with 3D audio, a mode where you can view each car from various angles, and newly added urban area courses.” What’s more, it’ll be developed by the same studio behind the core DriveClub.
That means the PSVR spinoff will be hailing from a new studio under Codemasters, after the UK-based racing experts acquired much of the development team behind DriveClub following the closure of Evolution Studios back in March.
We’ll keep you updated as DriveClub VR nears its Japanese release on October 13 and, presumably, international rollout soon thereafter.
