Suicide Squad has taken quite an unmerciful bashing by the majority of critics, and even though the film has had a record-breaking first weekend at the box office, many are worried about the future of the DCEU – particularly superhero team-up flick, Justice League – now that we’re three movies in and all are generally perceived to be disappointments.
Ezra Miller made a very brief cameo as The Flash in both Suicide Squad and Batman V Superman, and will go on to reprise the role in Zack Snyder’s Justice League as well. Though fans seem to be enjoying his take on the character thus far (though admittedly, we haven’t seen much of it yet), you’ve got to wonder if he’s starting to get worried given all the poor reviews that both of the films he’s appeared in have received.
[zergpaid]Fortunately, it seems like Miller is staying pretty positive about the whole thing. During an interview with MTV, the actor was asked for his opinion on the backlash that Suicide Squad has been seeing, and here’s what he had to say:
You needn’t look any further than the Suicide Squad director and cast response to the negative reviews to feel how negative critiques motivate us. Ultimately, we can’t base anything on [the critical response]. As artists, we aim to please absolutely everybody with our work, but we also know that we have to keep expressing ourselves as best as we can express ourselves.
Well, at least he didn’t break out the ‘ol “we made it for the fans” chestnut, right?
We’ll find out if that extra motivation pays off for Miller and his castmates when Justice League hits theaters in November of next year.
