Variety reports that Slumdog Millionaire star Dev Patel has been cast in Aaron Sorkin’s HBO pilot, More As This Story Develops. Patel joins a strong cast that includes Jeff Daniels, Emily Mortimer, Mackenzie MacHale, Sam Waterston, Allison Pill, Olivia Munn and Josh Pence, among others.
The show takes place in a cable news setting with Patel playing a worker at the station. With the well rounded cast, HBO being the network, and a media related backdrop, More As This Story Develops could be HBO’s replacement for Entourage after it finishes its eighth and final season this summer. .
As for Dev Patel, this isn’t his first time on television. Patel’s young career began in the UK series Skins. From there, he gained fame as Jamal Malik in Danny Boyle’s Slumdog Millionaire, which swept the Oscars and many other award ceremonies in 2008.
Patel then worked with Academy Award nominated actor M. Night Shyamalan on The Last Airbender, a film adaptation of the Nickelodeon hit television animated series.
Recently, he was involved in The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel with a cast that includes Judi Dench, Bill Nighy and Maggie Smith. Also, Patel is currently shooting the indie drama Cherry with James Franco and Heather Graham.
Seeing as the pilot for More As This Story Develops is getting ready to shoot any day now, Patel is probably the last addition to the impressive cast. All things considered, this one seems very promising.
You can expect to see the full series sometime in 2012 on HBO
