Channeling the spirit of his old man, JD Fenix locks horns with the Swarm in the breathtaking launch trailer for Gears of War 4.
Flanked by squad members Kait (Laura Bailey), and Delmont “Del” Walker (Eugene Byrd), here we see JD laying waste to scores upon scores of enemies, armed to the teeth with humungous weapons and even giant, lumbering mechs. Don’t fret; Marcus Fenix returns to the fray, too, and developer The Coalition has teased the ways in which Gears 4 picks up the narrative pieces following the devastating Lambent Epidemic.
There’s still plenty of story details under wraps for now, but given we’re little over three weeks from launch, it won’t be too much longer before we’re taking the fight to the Swarm ourselves. Set against Lissie’s cover of Metallica’s “Nothing Else Matters,” gameplay naturally takes center stage in today’s cinematic trailer, but we do clock eyes on the reformed Coalition of Ordered Governments (COG), along with a new threat that thrusts humanity into a desperate fight for survival.
A full-fledged story campaign isn’t the only attraction in Gears 4, of course, given The Coalition has been drawing attention to the revamped Horde 3.0 mode all throughout the sequel’s marketing campaign.
Gears of War 4 will deploy for Xbox One and PC on October 11. Per the Xbox Play Anywhere feature, players who own both a PC and an Xbox One can pick up the sequel digitally on Xbox One to get a free digital copy on PC, or vice-versa. Those who opt to pick up the premium $100 Special Edition will be able to hop into the action a little early on October 7.
