A new era of magic sparks into life in the new, and seemingly final, trailer for Warner’s fantastical offshoot Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.
Helmed by David Yates – a stalwart of all things Potter after directing Order of the Phoenix onwards – Fantastic Beasts has already resonated with Potterheads in that it not only heralds the beginning of a new franchise under Warner Bros., but it also marks the screenwriting debut of J.K. Rowling, who was fairly involved in the creation of the studio’s spinoff and its planned sequel, which has already staked out a November 2018 release date.
[zergpaid]But let’s not get ahead of ourselves; this November, it is Eddie Redmayne that will be headlining Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them as Newt Scamander, a wizarding prodigy bound for the US Department of Magic in New York City. Set against the Roaring ’20s and far away from the birthplace of the Boy Who Lived, this is a film that is very much designed to present Rowling’s treasured universe through a different lens, as Redmayne’s brilliant protagonist scrambles across the four corners of the Big Apple in search of those elusive, magical critters least they wreak havoc on communities both wizarding and No-Maj (Muggles, essentially). Dark and difficult times lie ahead for Newt and Co., particularly as this is very much a Wiz-phobic New York City they’re exploring.
Also starring Katherine Waterston, Colin Farrell, The Flash star Ezra Miller, Gemma Chan, Carmen Ejogo, Jon Voight, Katherine Waterston and Ron Perlman, look for Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them to place moviegoers under a spell on November 18, 2016. Its follow-up, one that will welcome David Yates back into the director’s chair, was recently earmarked for launch in November of 2018.
