Chord Overstreet is looking quite different these days compared to his babyface era back when he was on Glee. The pop singer made waves during his run on the musical drama where he played character Sam Evans for nearly 100 episodes over the span of five years. Now, sporting some facial hair and a look that screams Nashville, Overstreet unveils the music video to his first single, “Homeland.”
Solo, non-Glee related material has been planned for quite a while, but it wasn’t until “Homeland” that we got our first proper taste. A pop-centric track entitled “Beautiful Girl” hit the Internet all the way back in 2012, and whatever music Overstreet was working on then clearly never transferred over to what he’s doing now. “Homeland” is a pop-rock ballad with some light country influence, and it’s a promising look into what an album might sound like.
The music video has Overstreet making his way back home to Nashville, venturing around the city that made him who he is today. Overstreet tells Billboard that being able to shoot a music video there was “very special,” and his passion for the city – and music – radiates throughout the clip.
Overstreet is the brother of former Hot Chelle Rae guitarist Nash Overstreet, and with former singer of the band, Ryan Follese, also heading into a country direction, you have to wonder if a Follese/Chord combo could be in the making someday. For now, though, Chord Overstreet is focused on making a name for himself with “Homeland,” and its music video helps show the potential for something special.
