Drake is celebrating his big 30th birthday today, and he kicked off the celebratory day by giving all of us some presents instead. Long rumored that he had some new projects up his sleeve, Drake blew the lid off the news during his OVO Sound Radio episode last night, debuting new tracks and announcing a new release for December.
The new project, entitled More Life, is scheduled to arrive in December, but it wasn’t actually clear what it technically “is.” Drake called it a “playlist” – so it’s definitely not the official follow-up to this year’s Views, but he also isn’t calling it a mixtape, either. If we’re being real here, it’s basically a mixtape, but use of the word “playlist” could imply that there’s going to be much more variety than the set sound found on If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late and What A Time To Be Alive. There’s also the possibility that More Life is going to be a collaborative effort of sorts featuring artists from his OVO Sound label – a compilation similar to what Kanye West’s Cruel Summer was.
Whatever the project ends up being, we’ve got some new tunes to hold us over. Drake premiered the single, “Fake Love,” which was also issued to streaming services. In addition to the single, he dropped “Sneakin’” and “Two Birds, One Stone.” This “mixtape” is probably what he was referencing when he mentioned its existence a few months back, so if you’re the greedy type, at least you still have the Drake and Kanye joint record to get hyped for over after More Life releases.
