Despite struggling to make much of an impact on the domestic box office earlier in the year, Now You See Me 2 performed strongly overseas – China is even said to be producing its own spinoff replete with an all-Chinese cast – where it pulled in an impressive 80 percent of its total $334 million haul.

And so, Lionsgate is beginning to set the stage for its third act, Now You See Me 3. Reuniting the Four Horsemen for more heist movie thrills and mind-bending trickery is director Jon M. Chu, and Deadline is reporting that the caper threequel has located its writers: Neil Widener and Gavin James.

Still relative newcomers in Hollywood, Widener and James are fast beginning to make a name for themselves, having recently signed on to script New Line’s blockbuster sequel San Andreas 2 and the Battle Of Alcatraz movie at Paramount. Bridge of Spies scribe Matt Charman is also attached to the latter, which takes place deep within the bowels of California’s infamous prison and tells the true-life story of six inmates who staged an attempted escape in 1946.

As for Now You See Me 3, Deadline claims that most, if not all of the core cast members have entered talks to reprise their respective roles – that includes Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Mark Ruffalo, Dave Franco and Lizzy Caplan – and now that Widener and James are officially on board, we fully expect the Four Horsemen to be waltzing in front of the cameras at some stage in 2017.
