Up until now, Marvel has kept the identity of its three 2020 movies firmly under wraps – and for good reason.
According to head honcho Kevin Feige, those planned Phase 4 films are riddled with spoilers for Avengers: Infinity War. Slated for May 1, July 10 and November 6, 2020, Feige touched base on the far reaches of Marvel’s known slate while chatting to Toronto Sun.
“Where we go after Avengers; what those 2020 films are, we’re pretty sure what those are going to be… but if I tell you that, we’re getting into spoilers,” says Feige.
Now, we know what you’re thinking; the fact that Marvel’s untitled 2020 movies will potentially spoil Avengers: Infinity War isn’t so much newsworthy as it is common sense. But the level of secrecy surrounding all three films – not to mention Avengers 4 being stripped of its title – indicates that the mere titles of the studio’s Phase 4 movies will be affected by the outcome of 2018’s Infinity War.
That’s something that writer-director Anthony Russo spoke about previously. Via /Film, the Infinity War co-director once drew attention to the magnitude of the ensemble movie, which looks set to have a rippling effect on the future of the MCU moving forward.
…They will end up changing the MCU more profoundly than any movie has yet, and there will be some things that come to an end in those movies, dimensions of the MCU will end in those film, dimensions will change forever in those films, dimensions will find new life in those films. They’re a real threshold for what we’ve come to know as the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and I think that dimension can be a little intimidating but also exciting.
Avengers: Infinity War is poised to launch into theaters on May 4, 2018. Its sequel, simply known as Avengers 4 for now, is without a title, but it will arrive on May 3, 2019, at which point we’ll likely have a better understanding of those three as-yet-untitled 2020 movies.
