The 1975 Hinting At New Music For 2018

The 1975 are set to cap off 2016 as one of the most successful rock bands around right now. With sold out shows all across the world, an appearance at the Apple Music Festival, a top ten single in “The Sound,” and their first number one record in I Like It When You Sleep, for You Are So Beautiful Yet So Unaware of It, the UK group has done virtually everything right during the calendar year. So, what’s next? Well, if you want to believe anything the guys put on social media, then you might be expecting another album relatively soon.

For what it’s worth, The 1975 are the kings of being cryptic, so it’s a little hard to take anything they tease at face value. But the band’s drummer, George Daniel, did post an Instagram video this weekend of frontman Matt Healy playing some keyboard, captioned with the number “2018.” Presumably, he’s hinting at the fact that the band is going to be back with new music in 2018.

However, it’s a bit of a difference from when Healy tweeted, “New The 1975 — 2017,” himself back in September – and that was fairly blunt even by their standards. Moral of the story here is that The 1975 are planning to strike while the iron’s hot, and new music can probably be expected as early as next year. If you want further proof that you should expect the unexpected when it comes to these guys, just take a look at Healy casually tweeting the band’s album title … a whole two years before it even came out.
