NBC did not do a good job with Constantine. With pretty much no promotion and an awful timeslot, the series was destined to fail, and now fans are hoping they handle Powerless a little better. Set in the DC Universe (which one isn’t clear, but it’s probably neither the Arrowverse nor the DC Extended Universe), it’s a workplace sitcom in the same vein as The Office.
Starring Vanessa Hudgens as a spunky young insurance adjuster specializing in regular-people coverage against damage caused by the crime-fighting superheroes, Powerless boasts an impressive cast made up of names like Alan Tudyk, Danny Pudi and Christina Kirk. The pilot was shown at Comic-Con this past July and while it received mixed reviews, it was apparently full of references that fans will love. Now, a premiere date for the show has been revealed by NBC, as they’ve announced that Powerless will finally reach the small screen on Thursday, February 2nd at 8:30 p.m. ET.
[zergpaid]Diving a bit deeper into the plot, the series will follow Hudgens’ character Emily as she stands up to one of these larger-than-life figures (after an epic battle messes with her commute) and accidentally becomes a cult “hero” in her own right, even if it’s just to her group of lovably quirky co-workers. Now, while she navigates her normal, everyday life against an explosive backdrop, Emily might just discover that being a hero doesn’t always require superpowers.
It’s an interesting premise, and one which will be a big test for superhero properties on television as we’ve never seen them used in a twenty minute sitcom format. With The Flash’s ability to travel between worlds though, here’s hoping Powerless gets to take part in a DC TV crossover sooner rather than later.
