Coming to a close this week is Ultimate Spider-Man, which will air its final episode tomorrow, January 7th. Marvel is pulling the plug on the show to instead focus on a new effort. We don’t know too much about it just yet, but the company is planning a new animated series for Disney XD, and as the teaser above confirms, it’ll arrive in the summer.
At only 10 seconds long, not much else is revealed in this awfully brief tease, but the confirmation of a release window is certainly exciting and nicely ties the new show in with Spider-Man: Homecoming, which swings into theaters on July 7th and stars Tom Holland, Robert Downey Jr. and Michael Keaton, among others.
From what we’ve heard, Marvel’s Spider-Man, as it’s being called for now, will follow a young Peter Parker, one who’s still going through his teenage years, presumably trying to tackle all the challenges that high school – and being a superhero – present. Leading the charge will be story editor Kevin Shinick (Robot Chicken) and director Philip Pignottie (Marvel’s Avengers Assemble), and from what we can tell, it’ll be targeting a younger audience.
Last week, we learned that Miles Morales and Spider-Gwen will likely be showing up in the new series as well, along with the villainous Venom, meaning that Peter will definitely have some interesting company surrounding him when the show premieres this summer. How it will stack up to Ultimate Spider-Man, which has been a pretty big hit with fans, remains to be seen, but more Spider-Man can never be a bad thing, right?
