Deadpool may not have won the award for Best Comedy at the Golden Globes last night, but 20th Century Fox’s first solo outing for the Merc with a Mouth is still one of the most critically acclaimed comic book flicks in recent memory, and everyone is anxiously awaiting some official news on the sequel. The movie definitely suffered a big setback when original director Tim Miller walked away due to creative differences, but now that John Wick‘s David Leitch is on board as a replacement, cameras will start rolling soon… right?
Unfortunately, there doesn’t seem to be a specific start date just yet, as star Ryan Reynolds confirmed to MTV when they caught up with him on the red carpet last night. The actor revealed that the search for someone to play the time-travelling, badass mutant Cable is still ongoing and until that’s in the bag, there won’t be any movement.
We’re not going to start until we’re ready. Everything feels great, everybody is seamlessly locked in to the situation. It’s been really amazing.
Reynolds also commented on those recent Deadpool/Logan rumors, once again denying that he’ll be dropping in for a cameo appearance – though he does love the idea of a team-up at some point in the future, and says that’s going be a decision Hugh Jackman (who has said numerous times that Logan will be his last time in the claws) ultimately has to make.
Deadpool 2 doesn’t currently have a release date, but be sure to keep an eye on WGTC for any and all further updates.
