It seems this current season of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. won’t be comprised of just 2 separate story arcs, as we’d previously believed. The ABC superhero series recently wrapped up its first 8 Ghost Rider-centric installments, and will return tomorrow night for its LMD midseason premiere. Fans had assumed this storyline would finish out the fourth season, but according to one of the show’s executive producers, there’s more to look forward to.
Jed Whedon revealed the following during the ongoing Television Critics Association Winter Press Tour:
This year there’s three [story arcs]. It’s based on our schedule of how we’re airing. We like to run continuous, if that [is] possible, so this next [LMD] chunk will be a section and then we’ll be off for a while and there’ll be a third part.
What exactly will that third arc revolve around? Could we see Ghost Rider return? Will it be something to do with the mysterious Inhuman that Simmons helped, perhaps? Your guess is as good as ours for now, but we’ll most likely get a hint or two over the next few weeks as the show’s fourth season rolls on.
In related news, we also have a new sneak peek from tomorrow’s episode, “Broken Promises.” In it, Director Mace (who has a very interesting episode of his own coming up) and Coulson order Radcliffe and Fitz to wipe Aida’s memory banks so that all trace of the Darkhold book are erased from her programming. Of course, based on what we know from this previous clip, that doesn’t work out too well for the good doctor.
Be sure to tune into ABC tomorrow night for what will no doubt be an eventful midseason premiere of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
