Marvel Unveils All-New Guardians Of The Galaxy

With a highly anticipated movie on the way, in addition to a new video game and having the animated series being renewed for a second season, it comes as no surprise that Marvel will continue to flood the market with all things cosmic in 2017 as it has announced a new comic book series in the form of All-New Guardians of the Galaxy.

Despite having “all-new” in the title, the lineup reflects that of what can be seen in the movies: Star-Lord, Drax, Gamora, Rocket, and even baby Groot. Gone are the Thing and Kitty Pride, who had appeared alongside the team previously. It’s just as well, too, considering it’s not a bad idea to attract casual costumers looking to delve into comic book collecting upon seeing the latest cinematic offering. Synergy often makes for an easier sell, after all.

Written by Gerry Duggan and illustrated by Aaron Kuder, the new series will find the team in a different place, which Duggan explained to ComicBook.com:

“When our story picks up, Groot is small and doesn’t seem to be growing large. We don’t quite know why. The Guardians don’t know why. The readers won’t have very long to find that will be a problem moving forward, in a fun way, I hope. Drax is done destroying. Something has happened to him to that has made him leave his swords down. Drax is still Drax. He wants to destroy, he’s just holding back for now. It’s a fun turn for him as he struggles with pacifism like an alcoholic might struggle in a bar.”

All-New Guardians of The Galaxy #1 will arrive sometime in May, which is coincidentally around the time of Free Comic Book Day. Do we smell a free prelude issue?
