New Mutants Character Breakdowns Confirm Original Team Members

As The Fault In Our Stars director Josh Boone heads into pre-production for 20th Century Fox's New Mutants movie (which is apparently going to be titled, X-Men: The New Mutants), we continue to get the occasional tidbit of information that gives us a better idea of what to expect from the Jr. X-Men flick, and this latest one is very interesting indeed.

As The Fault In Our Stars director Josh Boone heads into pre-production for 20th Century Fox’s New Mutants movie (which is apparently going to be titled, X-Men: The New Mutants), we continue to get the occasional tidbit of information that gives us a better idea of what to expect from the Jr. X-Men flick, and this latest one is very interesting indeed.

Boone himself actually hinted at which children of the atom would make up his team a while back, but now thanks to the guys over at That Hashtag Show, it looks like we finally have confirmation. The characters have been fitted with fake names to disguise their identities, but it’s not difficult to decipher who’s who based on these descriptions:

[CHRIS] Male, 17 years old, Actor must be an adult (18 or over) or a legally emancipated minor; Tall, corn-fed Kentucky kid.

[ANNA] Female, 17 years old, Actor must be an adult (18 or over) or a legally emancipated minor; Russian, sexy, with an obvious mean streak.

[ROB] Male, 16 years old, Actor must be an adult (18 or over) or a legally emancipated minor; Brazilian, cool, confident and extremely handsome.

[JESSICA] Female, 16 years old, Actor must be an adult (18 or over) or a legally emancipated minor; British, punk rock shorn red hair, waif-like.

The first one is Sam Guthrie/Cannonball, who is invulnerable when he’s blasting through the air. Anna, meanwhile has to be Illyana Rasputin/Magik, the younger sister of Colossus and a demon sorceress. Then we have Roberto DaCosta/Sunspot, who derives his incredible strength from the sun, and finally there’s Rahne Sinclair/Wolfsbane, who can transform into a wolf-like creature at will.

Significant by her absence is Dani Moonstar/Mirage – who the Demon Bear saga upon which the movie will reportedly be based actually revolves around – but that’s because she’s apparently already been cast. Hopefully the likes of Warlock, Cypher and Karma also get a look-in, or are at least set up for a sequel.

Fox’s New Mutants movie is expected to hit theaters at some point in 2018.
