It seems that Warner Bros. is beginning to step up their marketing campaign for Guy Ritchie’s King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, which will deliver a brand new spin on the classic tale. Set to star Charlie Hunnam as the titular hero, it’s been a busy week for the upcoming blockbuster, what with new photos, a striking poster and now, a fresh promo hitting the web. It all paints a very promising picture for one of this summer’s most exciting films, and we’re certainly eager to see more from it.
Oozing with style and grit, if one thing’s for certain, it’s that this is not King Arthur as you may remember him. No, far from it. Instead, what we’ve got here is an action-packed and seemingly darker take on the source material, one that wears its grittiness on its sleeve. Ritchie has definitely found a unique angle for the story and his stamp is all over the footage seen in the new promo above.
It’s a brief, but captivating teaser and one that will presumably be followed by a full-length trailer very shortly. For now, though, it certainly does its job of roping us in for what looks like a genuinely wild ride. Co-starring Jude Law, Astrid Bergès-Frisbey, Djimon Hounsou, Aidan Gillen and Eric Bana, there’s a lot of talent behind this franchise starter and Warner Bros. are no doubt hoping it’s a success.
That’s because Legend of the Sword is set to be the first part of a six film series. If all goes well, you can expect that plan to expand to include spinoffs and probably an entire cinematic universe, too. Because, Hollywood. But let’s not get too ahead of ourselves. First, Ritchie has to prove that his spin on the story will be a hit with audiences, and with the movie only a few months away now, it shouldn’t be too long before we find out if the studio’s big bet paid off.
King Arthur: Legend of the Sword rides into theaters on May 12th, 2017. Check out the explosive new trailer above and let us know your thoughts on Ritchie’s latest in the comments section.
