Titanfall 2‘s brand new multiplayer mode – Live Fire – arrives tomorrow on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC, developer Respawn Entertainment has announced.
Pitting two teams of six Pilots against each other, Live Fire does away with allowing players to call in orbital Titan support on a whim, instead putting the onus on you and the rest of your squad to strategize and coordinate your next move. Of course, that’s not how things are always going to go down when you’re playing with a bunch of strangers over the internet, but it’s certainly a nice option to have, especially as it’s completely free.
Two new, previously announced maps, Stacks and Meadows, have been built from the ground-up for the “lightning fast, six-on-six Pilot action,” which also completely removes the ability to respawn and limits the duration of each round to a meager one minute. That means you’ll likely have to think on your toes on more than one occasion, especially if you find yourself the only member of your squad left against a six-man strong enemy team.
Such a scenario is bound to happen eventually but wiping out the enemy team isn’t the only route to victory. Holding the neutral flag found in each map as the timer hits zero will automatically hand you the win, too.
In order to get the blood flowing tomorrow, Respawn’s offering double XP from February 23 to the following Monday, February 27 exclusively for the Live Fire playlist, so if you’re still chasing some gear unlocks, this is the place to get it done.
Rounding out the rest of Titanfall 2‘s patch will be a “complete overhaul” of the matchmaking menu, an additional Coliseum map – Columns – and a new Pilot execution, which you can behold in all its stylish glory in the video above. There’s also an arms-length list of patch notes to pore over, but you can see here for those.
Roll on tomorrow!
