Bill Paxton has died today at the age of 61.
“It’s with heavy hearts we share the news that Bill Paxton has passed away due to complications from surgery,” began a statement released by the actor’s family. “A loving husband and father, Bill began his career in Hollywood working on films in the art department and went on to have an illustrious career spanning four decades as a beloved and prolific actor and filmmaker. Bill’s passion for the arts was felt by all who knew him, and his warmth and tireless energy were undeniable. We ask to please respect the family’s wish for privacy as they mourn the loss of their adored husband and father.”
Recently seen in CBS’ TV adaptation of Training Day, the actor was best known for his appearances in James Cameron’s movies – featuring in The Terminator, Aliens, True Lies and Titanic. Paxton summarized his relationship with the director in the past by saying: “We’re just good friends, and he’s been incredibly loyal to me. I guess I always fantasized about hooking up with a director and doing a series of films with him. You think of the great actor/director teams, like Scorsese and De Niro …”
The actor also appeared in several other iconic 1990s blockbusters, including Apollo 13 and Tombstone, as well as the more recent Nightcrawler, Million Dollar Arm and Edge of Tomorrow. His final role will be The Circle with Tom Hanks and Emma Watson, based on the Dave Eggers’ novel of the same name.
Beloved by science fiction fans, he held the rare achievement (together with Lance Henrikson) of being killed by a Xenomorph, a Terminator and a Predator (in Predator 2). A reliably entertaining supporting actor and always an enjoyable screen presence, Bill Paxton will be missed.
Condolences to the family of Bill Paxton. I just heard the news. 😢
