All 13 episodes of Marvel and Netflix’s fourth collaborative effort leading up to The Defenders, Iron Fist, are now available for streaming, and despite getting quite a kicking from the majority of critics, fans seemed to have enjoyed the show. One thing a lot of comic book purists did agree was a major issue, though, was the lack of a superhero costume for Danny Rand.
We already knew going into the series that the Living Weapon most likely wouldn’t be suiting up, but when we got a brief glimpse of an older incarnation of Iron Fist in full costume via some grainy black and white footage around halfway through the season, some held out hope that the classic green and yellow ensemble might make an appearance. Unfortunately, that wasn’t to be, and it doesn’t sound like we’re going to be seeing it for quite a while.
During an interview with TV Guide, Finn Jones explained why Danny didn’t suit up during the first batch of episodes when asked about the omission of a costume, before suggesting that it won’t be happening for a “couple of seasons”:
The first couple of episodes you see Danny kind of awkwardly fitting into suits. He’s not used to this. He’s in a suit and it doesn’t feel right. Then he’s in regular clothes and it still doesn’t feel right. He’s trying to find his identity. Eventually throughout the series he kind of claims some kind of identity through his clothes — but we’ve got a couple more seasons to go before we get to that point.”
We’re not even certain Iron Fist will be renewed for another outing (though it’d be the first Marvel Netflix show not to be), but either way, this is not something fans are going to want to hear. Then again, the showrunners may have certain plans in place that Jones simply isn’t privy to, so perhaps we won’t have to wait as long as the actor suggests.
