“From the very start, they hunted us, controlled us, used us, betrayed us, but they could not break us. Now we fight to control our bodies, to love whom we choose.”
As the Clone Club braces for one last fight, BBC America has peeled back the curtain on the first trailer for Orphan Black‘s fifth, final and surely bittersweet season. Tatiana Maslany returns as the haunted Sarah Manning – along with Alison, Helena, Cosima, and Rachel – and all signs point to the actress delivering another Emmy-worthy performance(s) as the show’s leading clones. Since the show’s inception in 2013, those clones have been hunted, controlled and warped beyond recognition – but, crucially, they haven’t been broken. And so, we arrive at the flashpoint between Sarah, her genetically identical allies/sisters, and the nefarious forces populating Dyad Group and the Proletheans.
Make no mistake, Orphan Black is ready to go out with a bang, and up above you’ll get a sense of the gripping drama that awaits. BBC America will no doubt struggle to fill the void once Graeme Manson and John Fawcett’s sci-fi thriller bows off the airwaves, but both creators deserve credit for sticking to their five-season arc. “We always sort of had five seasons in mind,” said Manson in a previous interview. “And the thing that we just didn’t want to do is get kind of soft around the middle. We really think that it’s cooler to cancel yourself than to get canceled, than to peter out.” And it’s hard to argue with that logic.
Orphan Black returns for a fifth and final season on Saturday, June 10 at 10/9c on BBC America. It’ll be comprised of ten episodes in total, but tell us, will you be tuning in for Maslany’s last stand?
