2018 is shaping up to be a defining year for 20th Century Fox’s grand X-Men universe.
After much back-and-forth – between Deadpool 2‘s early production woes and the speculation that engulfed Dark Phoenix, it’s no wonder X-Men fans were left scratching their heads not too long ago – the studio has locked in plans to release Deadpool 2 on June 1st, 2018, smack bang in the middle of Josh Boone’s New Mutants and X-Men: Dark Phoenix, the next mainline entry in Fox’s superhero saga.
Boone’s long-rumored spinoff will naturally enter production first, and though it was initially reported that David Leitch would court the Merc With a Mouth in front of the cameras in the coming weeks, Omega Underground has today unearthed a report claiming that filming on Deadpool 2 has been delayed without rhyme or reason – but don’t worry, it’s only been postponed by one week. Citing sources close to the Vancouver production, Omega Underground is reporting that the anti-hero sequel will get going in earnest on June 26th. It’ll lens all throughout the summer, too, before the three-month spell of filming wraps up on October 6th – providing there are no further changes to the schedule, of course.
At the time of writing, there’s no official word from Fox, so it’s unclear if this delay will have much of an impact on the sequel’s current release date – if at all. Our guess? That June 2018 date will remain in place, and David Leitch and Co. will likely make up for lost time elsewhere.
The Merc With a Mouth will be dragged kicking and screaming back into theaters when Deadpool 2 opens on June 1st, 2018. As things stand, it’ll be bookended by New Mutants (April 13th) and the long-brewing X-Men: Dark Phoenix (November 2nd).
