Mike Colter’s Hero for Hire won’t be the only hero pummeling his way onto the small screen next year, as Syfy has officially slated Krypton for a premiere in 2018.

The long-brewing Superman prequel series, one hatched under David S. Goyer (Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice) and series showrunner Damian Kindler (Sleepy Hollow), has slowly flickered into life over the past two-to-three months, rolling out one promo after another, all the while beefing up its cast to include the likes of Georgina Campbell (Lyta Zod), Ian McElhinney (Val-El), Elliot Cowan (Daron-Vex), Ann Ogbomo (Alura Zod), Rasmus Hardiker (Kem), Wallis Day (Nyssa-Vex) and Aaron Pierre, who signed on to play the part of Dev-Em. Krypton has now been ordered to series, too, which stands as an exciting vote of confidence on Syfy’s part.

Amid that hullabaloo, there have been rumblings that Syfy would hold fire on its prequel series until 2018, and sure enough, a post on the network’s official site confirms that Goyer and Kindler’s spinoff won’t take flight until next year. The exact specifics of Krypton‘s release schedule remains a mystery for now, but expect plenty more details to surface in the coming weeks and months.

What we do know for sure is that Cameron Cuffe anchors the superhero drama as Seg-El, the Man of Steel’s grandfather.

Set two generations before the destruction of the legendary Man of Steel’s home planet, Krypton follows Superman’s grandfather (Cameron Cuffe, The Halcyon) — whose House of El was ostracized and shamed — as he fights to redeem his family’s honor and save his beloved world from chaos.

With only one still image and a fleeting teaser to its name, it’s early, early days for Syfy’s Krypton series. But now that Powerless has effectively been pulled from the airwaves, DC fans can rest assured that there will be plenty of TV content to binge through come 2018.
