The Skywalker Twins May Reunite In Star Wars: The Last Jedi

Earlier this week, Vanity Fair very nearly brought the internet to a screeching halt when they debuted their Star Wars: The Last Jedi cover story, which arrived with a handful of absolutely gorgeous photos and a treasure trove of trivia and tidbits about the upcoming film and the franchise as a whole. Of course, it also fuelled a lot of speculation and one of the things that got people talking the most was that shot of Mark Hamill and the late Carrie Fisher.

From what we know, Luke Skywalker will spend a good chunk of the movie training Daisy Ridley’s Rey, but fans have been wondering for a while now if we’ll perhaps get to see him join the fight as well, giving him an opportunity to reunite with Leia. It’s something which hasn’t been confirmed just yet, but does seem likely, and adding even more fuel to the proverbial fire now is Lucasfilm’s Pablo Hidalgo, who may have let it slip that there will indeed be some sort of reunion.

While speaking at Comic Con of Chile, he revealed a few interesting things about The Last Jedi, one of which being that Luke and Leia share a scene in the film together. Now, before you start getting too excited, it’s important to note that this news comes from a Spanish report, which was translated by Star Wars News Net. Trying to ensure that nothing got lost in translation, a writer from i09 reached out to Hidalgo to confirm it, and here’s what he said:

It doesn’t end there, though. The story took another turn when a writer from the Spanish site that first reported the news spoke up, saying that they confirmed personally with Hidalgo that there will be a reunion for the Skywalkers:

I confirmed this with Pablo himself when it was my turn to sign the poster for The Last Jedi. I showed him my cell phone with the Twitter post that comes up and Pablo, kindly (and very nicely) said yes, in a scene Luke and Leia will meet and made the meeting gesture, something like: (fist bumps).

That’s where it ends, and without anything official coming from the studio yet – and we don’t expect them to comment on this, either – it’s hard to say for sure what’s going on. Did Hidalgo’s words get misinterpreted? Is the original report accurate? Has something been lost in translation along the way? Honestly, who knows? But at this point, we don’t doubt that Star Wars: The Last Jedi will bring the Skywalker twins together again – especially after seeing them in that photo.

One way or another, we’ll find out for sure when the film blasts into theatres on December 15th.
