The Ides Of March Trailer

As the marketing ramps up for George Clooney's The Ides Of March, we now have the first official trailer. While talking about the film's poster, I mentioned that I wasn't completely sold yet on The Ides Of March. The idea of an Oscar peacocking political drama didn't quite grip me. Well, that was before I saw this trailer. Now, I can't wait to see the film.

As the marketing ramps up for George Clooney‘s The Ides Of March, we now have the first official trailer. While talking about the film’s poster, I mentioned that I wasn’t completely sold yet on The Ides Of March. The idea of an Oscar peacocking political drama didn’t quite grip me. Well, that was before I saw this trailer. Now, I can’t wait to see the film.

Showing at both TIFF and the Venice Film Festival, Clooney’s star studded film is loosely based on the 2004 Democratic primary run of Howard Dean. From the trailer, I see elements of three other excellent Clooney films; Syriana, Michael Clayton and Good Night, and Good Luck.

The Ides of March looks to be more than just a dry political drama. Instead, it comes off as an intriguing thriller with politics just acting as the backdrop. Plus, both Clooney and Ryan Gosling look like they’re giving excellent performances. In fact, the whole cast seems to be at the top of their game with this one.

What I was expecting was a dry, boring but well acted political film. Instead, The Ides Of March looks like it’s going to be exciting, interesting and compelling. A true political thriller, much in the vein of something like The Manchurian Candidate or the above mentioned Syriana.

Aside from Gosling and Clooney, the film stars Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Paul Giamatti, Marisa Tomei and Evan Rachel Wood

The Ides Of March will hit theatres on October 7th.

The Ides of March takes place during the frantic last days before a heavily contested Ohio presidential primary, when an up-and-coming campaign press secretary (Ryan Gosling) finds himself involved in a political scandal that threatens to upend his candidate’s shot at the presidency.
