It turns out that the superheroes of the Marvel universe help each other both on and off the screen.
Speaking to Yahoo! Movies in a recent interview, Tom Holland revealed that a recommendation from a trusted source helped him nab the part of Peter Parker AKA Spider-Man in the MCU. As you’ve probably guessed from the title of this article, it was none other than Thor himself, Chris Hemsworth.
Holland and Hemsworth had previously worked together on 2015’s maritime drama In The Heart of the Sea, and Holland was smart enough to use his connections to get through the door at Marvel Studios. Of course, the Australian actor couldn’t resist teasing him about the request, but in the end, it seems he came through.
Here’s how Holland explains it:
“He did actually, he did. I sent him an email while auditioning saying sort of like, ‘Hey Chris. So, I’m auditioning for Spider-Man. Can you let them know that I’m amazing or something?’ And he replied like, ‘Hey mate. I’ll let them know you never learn your lines and you are late all the time and you’re terrible at your job.'”
While it was no doubt Holland’s acting abilities that ultimately landed him the role, the endorsement of one of the Avengers themselves couldn’t have hurt his chances. It’s also interesting that Holland and Hemsworth have such a friendly rapport, as Spider-Man and Thor have yet to meet on screen, due to the God of Thunder being absent from the events of Captain America: Civil War. It seems like they’d get on well though so let’s hope they were share some scenes in the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War.
We’ll soon see Holland’s first full-length debut as the wallcrawler in Spider-Man: Homecoming, arriving July 7th in the US. Hemsworth, meanwhile, will next reprise the role of Thor in the threequel Thor: Ragnarok, coming on November 3rd.
