Edge Of Tomorrow 2 Will Bring Clarity To The Original’s Mind-Bending Finale

Taking to Twitter, writer Christopher McQuarrie has vowed to bring clarity to Edge of Tomorrow's finale with the release of Live Die Repeat and Repeat.

On your feet, maggot! For a film that arrived with little-to-no fanfare, Edge of Tomorrow performed relatively well – critically, if not financially – three years ago, carving out an impassioned fanbase in the process.

In those intervening years, viewers have long wondered whether Tom Cruise (The Mummy) and Emily Blunt (Mary Poppins Returns) would ever circle back to the battlefield to wage war against the Mimics once more. And though Doug Liman’s under-appreciated gem didn’t exactly set the box office on fire, Warner Bros. and the creative team have pulled together to craft Edge of Tomorrow 2 – otherwise known as Live Die Repeat and Repeat.

One member of that creative team is Christopher McQuarrie, who currently has his hands full with the as-yet-untitled Mission: Impossible 6 in anticipation of its July 2018 release date. That being said, McQuarrie is expected to help develop Edge of Tomorrow 2 alongside Doug Liman, Joe Shrapnel and Anna Waterhouse, and the final product will seemingly bring clarity to the original’s mind-boggling conclusion.

Taking to Twitter (via Screen Rant), the writer-director best known for his work on Jack Reacher started to field a series of questions regarding Edge of Tomorrow 2/Live Die Repeat and Repeat, which included his thoughts on the title of Doug Liman’s prequel/sequel.

Live Die Repeat and Repeat is beginning to coalesce under Doug Liman and writer Christopher McQuarrie, the latter of whom is also plotting Mission: Impossible 6 with Tom Cruise. Expect that one to storm theatres in July of next year, meaning that Edge of Tomorrow 2 will likely pit Cruise, Blunt and an as-yet-unknown third character against those pesky Mimics in 2019. We will, as always, keep you right up-to-date as more information comes to light.
