Starz has released a brand new trailer for Spartacus: Vengeance. It’s the first real look at the show that we’ve got thus far and the trailer is packed with all the bloody action you can ask for. Gearing up for a January 2012 premiere, Spartacus: Vengeance truthfully looks no different than the previous two seasons (Gods of the Arena and Blood and Sand). Admittedly, Gods of the Arena was more of a prequel and not an official season, but it was still just as entertaining.
Now don’t get me wrong, when I say that it looks no different, I don’t mean that as a negative, not at all. I’m simply saying that fans should know what to expect. More blood, more action, more violence, more sex, more nudity etc. It’s all fine by me as I loved both Gods of the Arena and Blood and Sand. If Vengenace looks to follow in their footsteps then I’m all for it!
Fans were worried that after such a long delay, the second season might not turn out well. Judging by the trailer below though, we have nothing to worry about. While Gods of the Arena wasn’t as good as Blood and Sand, it looks like Vengeance will return the show right back to where it was when we left off in Blood and Sand.
Let me clarify, Gods of the Arena wasn’t bad, not by any means. Like I said, it was very entertaining and was a lot of fun to watch, I just enjoyed Blood and Sand a bit more. I thought it was better crafted and the writing was a bit above that of Gods of the Arena.
Anyways, I love the Spartacus series and can’t wait for it to return. Liam McIntyre will be taking over for Andy Whitfield in the lead role but that’s really the only major change here. Most of the regular cast will be back and it looks like fans won’t be let down with the second season.
Steven S. DeKnight said at Comic-Con, “In season 2, Spartacus learns how to be a leader. He goes from a guy with an axe to grind to being a leader.”
I’m eager to see how McIntyre does in the lead role but I’m not at all worried. He looks more than capable and he actually resembles Whitfield a bit.
The trailer confirms that the show is heading in the same direction and if you’ve enjoyed previous seasons, then there is no reason why you shouldn’t be excited for this.
