Black Lightning Cast Hype New Series, Hope For Crossover With The Flash

While we certainly love our DC TV shows around here, we're not afraid to question if it's really worth it for Greg Berlanti and company to add more to their plate, so to speak. But when a trailer for something like Black Lightning drops, it becomes very tempting to continue gorging on the genre.

While we certainly love our DC TV shows around here, we’re not afraid to question if it’s really worth it for Greg Berlanti and company to add more to their plate, so to speak. But when a trailer for something like Black Lightning drops, it becomes very tempting to continue gorging on the genre.

Despite the new show not premiering until around the midseason mark, lead actor Cress Williams and some of his colleagues are wasting no time when it comes to making their press rounds and attempting at getting fans on board. What he had to say is in line with what we’ve been hearing from the get-go, but the fact that his character is channeling The Dark Knight Returns and donning his costume after being retired for nine years certainly separates his series from the rest of its CW brethren. In other words, juxtaposing this with other shows that followed superheroes from their origins and on makes for a different brand of storytelling, to say the least.

What you should also take note of, though, is what co-stars Nafessa Williams and China Anne McClain – who play Jefferson Pierce’s daughters, Anissa and Jennifer, respectively – had to say. Basically, those two will be developing powers of their own, no doubt making life all the more interesting for their father who is a principal by day and a vigilante by night.

As excited as we’re becoming, it’s hard not to be let down by hearing things such as Black Lightning not taking part in an Arrowverse crossover anytime soon, but we’re guessing the network is just evaluating the new show’s success before taking any gambles. Still, the cast is “hoping” that such a thing “comes to fruition” and McClain says that, “if we did, Flash, I’m coming for you, man!”
