The animated microseries Star Wars: Forces of Destiny did a great job of including a range of fan favourite characters from across the saga in its eight episode first season. Driven by its female stars, the three-minute installments featured the likes of Princess Leia, Rey, Jyn Erso, Padme Amidala and Ahsoka Tano. Not to mention Anakin Skywalker, Yoda, Chewbacca, R2-D2 and more in supporting roles. Thankfully, the familiar faces will keep on coming in the upcoming season, as two more big names have been added to the line-up.
Jedi News are reporting that the latest issue of Star Wars Insider features an interview with Lucasfilm Story Group member Cassie Beck, who reveals that both Finn and Han Solo will make appearances in upcoming Forces of Destiny episodes. The good news is that John Boyega will reprise his role as the reformed Stormtrooper. And though Beck didn’t comment on Han’s voice artist, it’s highly unlikely that Harrison Ford will be playing the part.
This follows on from previous episodes which featured the original actors wherever possible. For instance, Daisy Ridley (Rey), Felicity Jones (Jyn) and Lupita N’yongo (Maz Kanata) all reprised their roles from recent movies, as did TV stars like Ashley Eckstein (Ahsoka) and Tiya Sircar (Sabine Wren). Leia, on the other hand, was played by Shelby Young, following Carrie Fisher’s death, and Padme was voiced by Catherine Taber, as Natalie Portman has long since distanced herself from Star Wars.
Forces of Destiny showrunner Jennifer Munro recently spoke to The Hollywood Reporter and revealed how thrilled she was to have been lucky enough to land these amazing actors, and how she feels it gives the show an extra layer of legitimacy and attention.
“It was thrilling that they wanted to be involved… It was so nice to have them with the TV actors and the voice actors — it brings the worlds together in a way I didn’t expect. It gives it more legitimacy, but beyond it being legitimate, it’s just wonderful for people who weren’t paying attention to go, ‘Oh, that’s surprising that [the movie cast] is doing that,’ and it brings more attention to what we’re trying to accomplish. It was nice to have them in the mix.”
