Has Warner Bros. Finally Found A Director For Flashpoint?

For reasons unknown, Warner Bros. has been having one hell of a hard time getting The Flash off the ground. It’s lost two directors since being announced and is still without someone at the helm. Not to mention it also doesn’t have a release date to call its own yet. Suffice it to say, it’s been a very rocky road.

For reasons unknown, Warner Bros. has been having one hell of a hard time getting The Flash – now called Flashpoint – off the ground. It’s lost two directors since being announced and is still without someone at the helm. Not to mention it also doesn’t have a release date to call its own yet. Suffice it to say, it’s been a very rocky road.

Let’s rewind for a bit, though. First, Seth Grahame-Smith came and went, as did Dope helmer Rick Famuyiwa, forcing Warner Bros. to quietly pluck The Flash from its original 2018 release slot and place it on the shelf, where it’s remained ever since.

That being said, over the past few months there have been some promising signs of progress, after Matthew Vaughn (Kingsman: The Golden Circle) Sam Raimi, and VFX whizkid Robert Zemeckis all became linked with the troubled standalone pic. Still no word on whether Warner Bros. has reached a final decision – mind you, Raimi has reportedly bowed out of the race due to issues with scheduling – but the latest report to tumble off the rumor mill suggests that the studio may be going back to a familiar choice.

That’s because Variety has now hinted that Zemeckis might be back in talks to direct. Though far from confirmed, the outlet mentioned today that “the likes of James Wan and Robert Zemeckis have made the trek to Burbank to sell the studio on their vision for the spandex set.”

Of course, that doesn’t mean that this is a done deal, but it appears as if there might be some truth to those earlier reports, with the general consensus being that it was Zemeckis who caused the studio to change the title of the film to Flashpoint and head in that direction with it.

Chalk that up as speculation for now, and without any confirmation from Warner Bros. on this, the saga continues, but with Justice League looming on the horizon (November 17th), surely it won’t be too much longer now before the fate of the DCEU’s Scarlet Speedster has been decided, right?

Either way, we’ll keep you posted as more news on Flashpoint surfaces.
