If you love animated children’s films about now-extinct species in harsh climates and outlandish, female rappers paving the way for hardcore chicks all around the world, then today is your day. Recent hip-hop sensation and queen of top 40 radio, Nicki Minaj, will have a role in Ice Age: Continental Drift, the fourth film in the Ice Age series.
Minaj is just one of the seemingly endless list of famous names attached to use their voices in the film, including the stars of the previous Ice Age films like Ray Romano, Queen Latifah, and Denis Leary. We’ll also be seeing some new characters, voiced by actors like Jeremy Renner and Jennifer Lopez.
I can tell you from experience that Nicki Minaj makes a great ringtone, but will her talents add much to Ice Age: Continental Drift? It really doesn’t matter. The Ice Age movies pull in enough money to keep getting made, and they really don’t follow logical reasoning anyway.
As even my 6-year-old cousin noticed, Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs bent reality to an extreme, implying that there was another layer of existence under “the ice” that the dinosaurs lived on. If the films are getting more farfetched with each sequel, then whatever goes on in Ice Age: Continental Drift probably won’t makes sense at all.
On the other hand, I’m lost as to why anyone thinks that Nicki Minaj will bring in more money for Ice Age. I imagine that the only conversation possible could’ve gone like this: “What will get more little kids to see this movie? Hmmm. Somebody get me Minaj!”
We don’t know the nature of Minaj’s future character, but we will soon enough. Ice Age: Continental Drift is slated to release on July 13th, 2012.
