Now that Star Wars: The Last Jedi has entered the home stretch – barring some final touch-ups here and there, Rian Johnson is expected to complete his work on the sci-fi sequel imminently – the Star Wars rumor mill has switched into overdrive ahead of December 15th.
The latest unverified nugget of information comes to us by way of MSW, a relatively sound source for Star Wars trinkets, particularly after the outlet posted details of those delightful little porgs long in advance of April’s Celebration event. Today, this alleged scoop concerns another resident of Ahch-To: Luke Skywalker.
After vanishing from the scene and entering a state of exile, Mark Hamill’s wise old Jedi Master has been totally absent from the brewing war between the Resistance and the First Order, which goes some way to explaining the look of desperation plastered on Rey’s face as she handed over her lightsaber to its rightful owner. Coaxing Luke back to the fight won’t be easy, and previous reports have teased the steely relationship between Rey and her newfound mentor, but until we have some firm answers for you, MSW has relayed an image of a Topps trading card that seemingly depicts Luke’s final costume in Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

If nothing else, it strongly suggests that Luke will change into darker robes as The Last Jedi unfolds, perhaps signifying his descent into villainy. Chalk that up as conjecture, though, as Mark Hamill is of the belief that Rian Johnson’s upcoming sequel isn’t really about Luke in the first place.
It’s not about us anymore. In this new one, I was saying to [writer/director] Rian Johnson: I need to know my backstory. It was kind of unclear. You read where he is now and what he’s doing now and sort of have to fill in the blanks for yourself. So I did do a backstory myself. It’s not about Luke anymore, so it’s not really important. But I had to make sense of it for myself.
On December 15th, the Powers That Be over at Lucasfilm will launch Star Wars: The Last Jedi into the mainstream. It’ll follow in the footsteps of The Force Awakens ($2.04 billion) and Rogue One ($1.05 billion), and we’re intrigued to find out how The Last Jedi fares against the competition.
