Rob Liefeld, comic book maestro and the creative genius behind the Merc With a Mouth, fanboys over Nathan Summers (AKA Cable) in this really rather awesome behind-the-scenes photo from Deadpool 2.
First unveiled via Liefeld’s own Instagram feed, the image finds Josh Brolin (Avengers: Infinity War) between takes, as the actor shares a laugh with the man responsible for his on-screen anti-hero in the first place – Liefeld is one of four credited with the creation of Cable, alongside Chris Claremont, Louise Simonson and Rick Leonardi.
It’s not a particularly revealing photo by any means, so don’t go in expecting any clues pertaining to Deadpool 2‘s story; instead, this is a welcome peek behind the curtain, as it gives fans a chance to see Rob Liefeld on set. And let’s face it: having the creator of Deadpool present between takes can only be a good thing.
The Instagram post came tethered to the following caption:
CABLE!! Say what?? I’m going to actually meet him in the flesh and blood(and steel coils)?? And, oh, by the way, he’s one of your favorite and one of the most talented actors of all space and time! Yeah, I dare you to try and meet one of your own creations and not get umpteen butterflies in your stomach. I don’t remember anything that was said here besides me thinking “I’m meeting CABLE!! HOW AWESOME IS THIS?!?!”
This is by no means the first time that Josh Brolin’s performance has drawn the admiration of his peers; director David Leitch believes the soon-to-be Avengers actor is a perfect fit for Cable, and that’s something that Liefeld echoes below, where the artist hails Brolin as both “amazing and outstanding.”
Mr. Josh Brolin could not be more perfect in this role. He is amazing and outstanding and you will no doubt be as giddy as I was when watching him portray Cable. His commitment to becoming Cable goes beyond his physical transformation, he found the voice that fans will go crazy about! Ryan as Deadpool and Josh as Cable. Look out World this is going to be nuts!
Josh Brolin’s newcomer will be introduced alongside Domino (Zazie Beetz) when Deadpool 2 swings into theaters on June 1st, 2018. It’s emerging from a pretty trying spell in front of the cameras, too, given a miscalculated motorcycle stunt resulted in the death of Joi “SJ” Harris, whose life and legacy will be honored with a tribute video from the cast and crew.
