What a year it’s been for Laura Dern.
From HBO’s Big Little Lies to Twin Peaks to a little-known indie film called Star Wars: The Last Jedi, the actress has filled the past 12 months with all kinds of exciting, complex roles – for all the criticism leveled at Rian Johnson’s sweeping blockbuster, one could argue that Vice Admiral Amilyn Holdo was the best new character of The Last Jedi. You know, after Rose Tico.
And it seems Laura Dern has developed a renewed taste for big-name Hollywood tentpoles. Chatting to Entertainment Tonight as part of The Last Jedi‘s ongoing press tour, Dern hinted that her Ellie Sattler could make a surprise appearance in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.
“[It] could be fun,” she teased with all but a wink. “I mean, I love Ellie Sattler.”
Should the stars align, she won’t be the only Jurassic Park veteran returning in time for Fallen Kingdom. Not only has Jeff Goldblum (Thor: Ragnarok) signed on to reprise as Ian Malcolm, but earlier this month we learned that Sam Neill – another member of the Ragnarok cast – had been tipped for a role in the Universal sequel, which would effectively complete a reunion 25 years in the making: Alan Grant, Ellie Sattler, and Dr. Ian Malcolm.
We’d advise approaching this rumor with a heightened sense of caution, as there’s a very good chance that Laura Dern is merely teasing her dream scenario. Still, if the creative team at Universal were able to find some wiggle room for Jeff Goldblum to return, we don’t see any reason why Laura Dern can’t do the same.
Because in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, a great conspiracy is afoot, as Owen Grady (Chris Pratt) and Claire Dearing (Bryce Dallas Howard) circle back to Isla Nublar at the 11th hour.
Arriving on the unstable island as lava begins raining down, their expedition uncovers a conspiracy that could return our entire planet to a perilous order not seen since prehistoric times.
Expect Juan Antonio Bayona’s super-sized adventure to stomp into theaters on June 22nd, 2018.
