Let’s face it, things don’t exactly go to plan for Supreme Leader Snoke in Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Rather than kick off a new era of darkness with his Vader-a-like boy toy Kylo Ren at his side, he winds up unceremoniously chopped in half by his apprentice and ends up lying on the floor with his tongue lolling ungracefully out of his (very) dead mouth.
But perhaps Snoke is a big fan of Chumbawumba’s 1997 hit “Tubthumping,” which contains the lyric: “I get knocked down, but I get up again / You are never gonna keep me down!” This is the working theory of some Star Wars fans, who believe that Snoke will actually get up again. Yes, you read that right. People still think that the big bad will be featured in Episode IX, and here’s why.
YouTuber Star Wars Theory puts forth the idea that Snoke was never actually in that room with Kylo and Rey. How’s that possible, you ask? Well, according to him, what we saw was just a Force projection and not the real thing. And while this particular theory has been floated before, the YouTuber brings a lot of new evidence with him to support it, with most of it coming from Star Wars: The Last Jedi: The Visual Dictionary.
For instance, he mentions that the villain can project himself from across great distances and few have ever seen him in the flesh, as he often disguises his true nature. Plus, if Snoke created that mental bridge we see between Rey and Kylo, why does it still exist even after he’s gone? Then, there’s also the fact that his throne in The Force Awakens is different than the one we see him on in The Last Jedi.
Intrigued yet? We sure are, and if you’re curious to know more, Star Wars Theory dives even deeper into all of this across both parts one and two of the video. Granted, fan theories relating to that galaxy far, far away are a dime a dozen and quite often don’t amount to much, but we will say that this one is pretty interesting and presents some good food for thought.
What do you think, though? Is Snoke still alive and well, ready to make his return in Star Wars: Episode IX? Take to the comments section down below and share your thoughts.
