It was a moment we thought would never come but now, thanks to the recent Fox/Disney deal, the X-Men are on their way to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. How or when they’ll make their debut, we don’t know, but the mutants will soon cross paths with Earth’s Mightiest Heroes and we couldn’t be more excited about it.
Of course, the one thing that fans most want to see is Wolverine teaming up with the likes of Iron Man and Captain America. And though Hugh Jackman has unfortunately called it quits with regards to his time in the role, many remain hopeful. In fact, it’s not only the fans who are holding out hope, as several actors have already expressed their wish to see Hugh back in the role, too. Chris Hemsworth and Sebastian Stan were the most recent and now, we can add Scott Adkins to that list as well.
Having appeared as Weapon XI in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, not to mention as a villainous zealot in Doctor Strange, among many, many other non-comic book movie roles, the actor was recently asked for his thoughts on the recent Disney/Fox deal. Of course, he was totally into it, but is also hopeful that Mr. Jackman will come back to play the X-Men leader.
“I think it’s great,” Adkins explained. “I actually hope Hugh Jackman comes back to play Wolverine, if they’re going to do that. [But] if he’s had enough, then that’s up to him of course. Maybe, if you’re going to [bring Wolverine back], you need somebody who’s getting ready to do a bunch of more movies and not just a one-off.”
Whether it’s Jackman in the role or not, though, Adkins certainly thinks Wolvie should be in the MCU, saying:
“Wolverine is my favorite character of the X-Men. I don’t like it when the powers are too outlandish and crazy. What’s great about Wolverine is he’s got claws, and he regenerates them, and he shanks people. I love that about him. I’m not into the eyes and all of the stuff coming out of the eyes. Get Wolverine in the Marvel Universe, absolutely.”
I think most people would agree with the actor on both points here. Obviously, having Jackman return for more would be a dream come true, but the chances of that happening are slim to none. Still, Wolverine needs to be in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Whether it’s with Hugh or someone else, he’s too iconic a character to leave out.
Not to mention the possibility of having him rub shoulders with the likes of the Avengers basically gives Marvel a license to print money. Or should we say, a license to print even more money. Of course, only time will tell which actor ends up donning those Adamantium claws next, but rest assured, we haven’t seen the last of Wolverine on the big screen.
