There’s a dark, seedy underbelly seething within the depths of Lucasfilm’s Star Wars franchise.
It’s the kind of outcrop that only attracts the lowest of the low – the worst of the worst – and on May 25th, Ron Howard will be steering Solo: A Star Wars Story toward one of the most dangerous places in the galaxy.
At least, that’s according to Alden Ehrenreich, the man who would be Han. Equipped with that iconic blaster and some sound advice from the great Harrison Ford, the up-and-coming actor is about to make a big dent in Star Wars history, beginning with a deep dive into a “real dark underworld” set within Lucasfilm’s crown jewel.
Via Entertainment Weekly:
I think it tells the story of a young man pursuing a dream to get out of his pretty rough upbringing, and a lot of the story is him trying to make this dream come true and finding out that it’s a lot harder than he had imagined. One of the fun things about this movie but also one of the things that really shapes him is that it takes place in a real dark underworld of the Star Wars universe.
As for how his Han Solo differs from the one we know and love, Solo: A Star Wars Story will whisk viewers off to a time when the titular nerf-herder was an “idealist” with dreams of his own.
I think the main thing that’s different is that the Han we meet in this film is more of an idealist, he has certain dreams that he follows, and we watch how it affects him as those dreams meet new realities, realities that are harder and more challenging than he’d expected.
It’s the fourth feature movie to come out of Disney and Lucasfilm’s rebooted saga, and with both Rian Johnson and Game of Thrones duo David Benioff and D.B. Weiss hard at work on two wholly different trilogies, the Star Wars franchise will only continue to grow and evolve with each passing year.
Up first? Solo: A Star Wars Story, and it’ll be with us on May 25th.
