While there are still two weeks to go before Thanos gets out his “to kill” list and starts crossing off Avengers, things are becoming eerily quiet around the MCU with the onset of what’s sure to be an epic battle. Considering the scope of Infinity War, the Mad Titan’s notorious comic book history, and with several high profile contracts coming to an end, it doesn’t take a genius to figure out that the film will carry a hefty death toll. The only question remaining is, which of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes will bite the dust?
No matter how much we beg and prod, members of the MCU will never, under any circumstances, divulge company secrets. However, as Benedict Cumberbatch displayed in a recent interview, they have no issue teasing the living hell out of us. Stephen Strange himself sat down with MTV Movies and discussed the possibility of his character passing in the impending Avengers: Infinity War, saying:
“It’ll be interesting. You have to wait and see. There’s lots of threats coming his way. He holds the Time Stone around his neck for a part of this film and we know someone’s coming to get them for a big glove.”
Doctor Strange certainly wasn’t a top candidate for death in the film, but after Cumberbatch’s comments, I might just reconsider. He makes a good point, as the hero does hold the Time Stone around his neck in the Eye of Agamotto, making him the prime target for Thanos. Well, along with Vision, of course, who possesses the Mind Stone.
Anyways, the actor continued alluding to his character’s demise, teasing:
“You’ve seen him in Thor: Ragnarok and you know he’s in this one. That doesn’t mean you’ll see any more of him, so you’ll have to wait and see.”
Although Strange only made his MCU debut in 2016, I’d say he’s in the middle of the pack when discussing potential terminations. After all, we did see the Doctor being tortured by Black Order member Ebony Maw in the film’s trailer, and things certainly didn’t look too good for the Sorcerer Supreme. Then again, we’d be pretty surprised if Marvel killed the character off so soon after introducing him. At this point though, only time will tell who bites the dust in Avengers: Infinity War.
