There’s a new trailer for Hereditary out in the wild, and it’s every bit as dark and twisted as you’d expect.
Championed as the must-see horror movie of 2018 (and for good reason), Ari Aster’s generation-spanning thriller is an exercise in nerve-shredding tension, one which follows a family still reeling from the death of their matriarch.
At the center of the supernatural storm is Annie Graham (Toni Collette), who begins to suspect that there’s something amiss with her teenage daughter, Charlie (Milly Shapiro), following her grandmother’s death. It’s a relatively simple set-up in the grand scheme of things, but looks can be deceiving, and so too is Milly Shapiro’s glowering teen, who flashes one manic look after another in the above trailer.
Six weeks out from release, we’re beginning to see why Hereditary has been branded as one of the scariest horror movies in months – if not years.
Since it was first summoned onto the festival circuit via Sundance earlier in the year, Hereditary has garnered a ton of buzz for its unrelenting tension and powerhouse performances, particularly from Toni Collette, whose grieving mother goes through hell and high water once the shit begins hurling toward the fan.
In his own glowing review, WGTC’s resident horror fiend Matt Donato deemed Hereditary to be a “tonal masterclass that delves into ubiquitous genre-bending devastation with no allowable escape, plotted admirably and wound tightly with poison-laced barbed wire that taunts as it twists inward.” And if that isn’t enough to pique your interest, we don’t know what will.
Hereditary slithers into theaters (and our nightmares!) on June 8th.
