Stranger Things season 3 is set to begin filming later this month and, ahead of the Netflix phenomenon once again going in front of the cameras, two exciting new casting additions have been revealed to be moving to the weird and frightening town of Hawkins.

Cary Elwes – familiar to modern horror fans as Dr. Lawrence Gordon in the Saw films – is joining the ensemble cast as Mayor Kline, suggesting that season 3 will finally introduce us to the mayor of Hawkins. With all the odd shenanigans going on in the town, we expect him to be a very shady individual indeed. Meanwhile, Jake Busey – set to star in the upcoming Predator – is set to play a man named Bruce. That’s all we know about his role for now, though.

Elwes should definitely be right at home on Stranger Things, as he’s yet another cast member who’s previously appeared in a fondly-remembered classic 1980s movie. Fans will know that he played Westley in 1987’s The Princess Bride, and in Stranger Things, he joins the likes of Winona Ryder (Beetlejuice), Sean Astin (The Goonies) and Matthew Modine (Full Metal Jacket).

Busey, meanwhile, doesn’t exactly fit this bill, but he’s still a welcome addition to the cast, with a couple of cult favorite roles on his resume. The actor previously starred in 1996’s Peter Jackson horror/comedy The Frighteners and sci-fi movie Starship Troopers.

In related news, another new addition to season 3 was revealed last month. Maya Thurman-Hawke, the daughter of Uma Thurman and Ethan Hawke, is playing an unknown character described as an “alternative” girl who’s bored with her job but gets more excitement than she bargained for when she discovers Hawkins’ dark secrets.

Stranger Things season 3 will likely arrive on the streaming service later than its usual Halloween release date. It could be with us by the end of the year, but at this point, 2019 seems more likely. As always, watch this space for more.
