MTV Taunts Hunger Games Fans With New Clip

The MTV Video Music Awards will be on this Sunday, and the network has released a promo for the awards show, promising that the first footage from The Hunger Games will air on the program, presented by the star of the film, Jennifer Lawrence. The promo, entitled, "VMA 2011: 'The Hunger Games' First Look Promo" technically does involve the a first look at the film, showing Katniss (Lawrence) physically moving. Sadly, she's only in the video for about one second.

Let’s be honest, whatever clip they show from The Hunger Games, it likely won’t be about Katniss. Considering that MTV’s movie awards each year hand over seemingly ever award to the Twilight series, I think it’s pretty safe to assume that they’re going to play up the Katniss/Peeta/Gale triangle this Sunday, just like most of the promotional material still to come probably will. Ignore the fact that Gale (Liam Hemsworth) is barely even in the book this film is adapted from, just go along with it and try to focus on Peeta (Josh Hutcherson).

In fact, I consider this Sunday to be the official beginning of the systematic Hunger Games inaccuracies that will plague fans for the rest of the trilogy. The first promotional clip will probably be all about the Twilight-like romance, and it most certainly won’t highlight any of the violence that’s in almost every page of the book. But that’s okay, if this is the way things are going to be, I’m not going to let it bring me down. I’ll be sitting in front of the television eagerly awaiting princess Lawrence with the rest of the fangirls.

Do you love The Hunger Games enough to suffer through the VMA’s this weekend?
